SOUNDWAVE 07 featured musicians:

GINGER ROOT // LISTEN HERE

By day, he cuts films, videos and other multimedia, and by night he plays music in shady bars, possibly ran by the mafia. Cameron Lew, the film student from Huntington Beach, merges an indie sound, with hints of funk and soul. “Fans of Jamiroquai, Melody’s Echo Chamber, Ducktails and Vulfpeck will like this one.” -Divide and Conquer Music.  Cameron has been a part of many musical projects around SoCal, but now he debuts his solo project, Ginger Root, with bandmates Anthony Grisham on Squire VI (bass) and Matt Carney on drums.

GARRETT HAZEN // LISTEN HERE

Growing up with a penchant for the creative and strange, Garrett Hazen soon became enamored with the sounds of Led Zeppelin, Arcade Fire, Bob Dylan, Radiohead, and Wes Montgomery. At the age of 10, Garrett picked up the guitar, and immediately became obsessed. By 17, Garrett was forming his own bands, as well as appearing on stage with jazz greats such as Gordon Goodwin, Don Menza, and Tom Kubis. He currently lives in LA with his wife Kali and is constantly performing and recording with a variety of LA based artists and producers. His debut album Can't, released in April 2017, showcases many of these influences as well as a modern approach to vintage recording techniques with the help of producer Spencer Riley. Can't is available in all digital formats.

BRENNAN STRAWN // LISTEN HERE.

Steeped in dark, thematic aesthetics, MONARCH plays cinematic driven pop, coated with indulgent, sentimental vocals and a shiny synth veneer.  The inception of Monarch began out of a love of vast soundscapes and soundtracks from movies of the 80s and 90s. Brennan Strawn is the front man and vocals and will be performing a stripped down acoustic set with some new personal project material.

SOUNDWAVE 06 featured musicians:

WOLFMAGIC

Local grown folk music from Laguna Beach, California. Nate & Aris create songs with charming melodies and soulful lyrics.

MADI CUNNINGHAM // LISTEN HERE

Madison Cunningham is a singer/songwriter currently based out of Orange County, CA. Her debut album Authenticity, released just over two years ago, showcased a wide breadth of musical scope and style, as well as a depth in lyricism and melody. At only 20 years of age, Madison draws from many timeless musical influences including Joni Mitchell, Robert Plant, Jeff Buckley, and Bob Dylan. These sorts of influences, as well as her family and life experiences, blend remarkably to shape the person and artist that she strives to be. A true storyteller, her music is as dynamic and unique as her life and the lives of those that catch her pen. After working for most of 2016, she is currently prepping to release a second round of songs at the end of the month.

MĀRĒ // LISTEN HERE

MĀRE, the brand new electro pop/rock band, recently debuted their self-titled EP at the Anaheim House of Blues, entering the music scene — as per their lyrics — as the “coolest kids on the West Side.” Twenty-year-old Mary Ives — putting the “Mar” in MĀRE— is the lead vocalist and queen bee of the band, joined by Jakob Thomas on guitar, Zach Esposito on bass, and Keynon McBurney on drums. By melding the ingenuity of modern day pop with the enduring qualities of classic rock, MĀRE has forged a unique persona, with some of their musical and lyrical influences ranging from Jackson Browne to The 1975. Now in the early stages of production on their sophomore EP, MĀRE’s ambition is to create a musical experience that both the listener and band can share. Meanwhile, they continue to play shows in the Los Angeles and Orange County regions.

COMING INTO 2017 HOT!

Exciting to be hosting our first SOUNDWAVE of the New Year!

Join us Thursday, January 26th for our fifth installment of SOUNDWAVE a live music series hosted by SOURCED. & Neighborhood Creative! Connect with new friends, support local music, and lets hang. Check out our full recap from our last event here.

The vision behind these events are to highlight some incredible musicians and provide them with the platform to connect with a captive audience in an inspired space - all while capturing the magic to film and video. Our hope is to create a space where a story is told through music; the passion, the process, and the connection.

SOUNDWAVE .005 featured musicians:

KENTON REMMEY // Listen here

Kenton Remmey is a singer songwriter originally from south eastern Pennsylvania. Growing up he has been fascinated with music and the arts from an early age,  he spent his adolescent years on writing for and playing in various bands and duos. His musical style ranges from acoustic pop folk songs to hardcore metal genres. His current solo work consists  of melodic acoustic tunes taking his listeners on a journey of love and self reflection. He is accompanied live by Kalimba Myler on vocals and piano and his single "Sleepy Eyes" is now out on iTunes.

JACKIE PEMBER // Listen here

As a Laguna Beach local, Jackie Pember has been performing around town for the past three years. She has an extensive range of genres with a soulful twist all of her own. From her high highs to her low lows, she has captivated a wide audience from coast to coast. Born in New York and raised in Florida, she then moved to California to fine tune her uniqueness with that California vibe.

FRANK COPE // Listen here

20 year old singer/songwriter Frank Cope has spent this past year writing, recording, and performing around Southern California in hopes of sharing his music with people. He released his debut EP, Wonderlove, on January 14th, 2017. Wonderlove effectively captures his unique, pop-friendly style of blending hip/hop and rap with acoustic music. In his live performances he uses looping to layer beat-boxing, guitar slaps, and vocal melodies to create a full and energetic accompaniment to his show, similar to that of pop singer Ed Sheeran. He combines familiar singer/songwriter pop sensibilities with melodic rapping in a way that showcases his energetic persona. Highlights on Wonderlove include “Paige”, which in Frank raps a story of love at first sight, and the title track “Wonderlove”, which uses a beatbox-style drum beat to lay the groove behind energetic rapping tucked between a stadium-sized hook.

SOUNDWAVE .004 Artist Showcase:

Aris Ford // Listen Here

Nailed as The Reverend of Campfire Hymns, Aris Ford blends an eclectic style of blues and folk guitar picking with melodic layers of vocals and well-thought lyrics. His acoustic guitar and sincere voice are often accompanied by a Hohner harmonica to soothe the soul. Chilling guitar lines and ethereal vocals on tracks like "Sleepwalker" and "Coming Clean" evoke heart wrenching realizations before lyrics reveal their true intentions. Other tracks like "Please Come Home" and "Love on Canvas" offer pop melodies and vocals with a more upbeat tempo with influences from the likes of John Mayer and William Fitzsimmons. Many of his songs were written in places like Big Sur and Yosemite National Park under the mighty mountains and tall redwood groves where he finds inspiration and solace. Tracks like "City Lights" document a long journey into the night to find the dawn of a new day rising. No matter which song, you are sure to find a sound you'll connect with on a personal level.

Kleinahexa // Listen here

Kleinahexa is the brainchild of singer-songwriter Kyara Kalb. Drawing inspiration from Joni Mitchell and Elliott Smith as much as David Bowie and The Velvet Underground, they've cultivated a warm sound any fan of melancholy songcraft can enjoy. The heartfelt instrumentation is coupled with to-die-for four part vocal harmonies and the songs all feel like a friendly arm around the shoulder. There's also a conscious desire for Kleinahexa to push the boundaries for women in general. Even if the songs are more Carole King than Kathleen Hanna, the heart of the group is one beating for feminine empowerment. If you've ever wanted a band with the spirit of riot grrl filtered through the downbeat, hazy and homey sound of Laurel Canyon, you owe it to yourself to hear Kleinahexa.

De Palma // Listen here

De Palma is a time traveling act that merges their contemporary rock/pop and post-grunge upbringing with the inventiveness of frontman Magdiel Montano, whose creative outlet pours dark-wave synths and ambient guitars into an energetic interpretation of his own sound. Although born in Mexico, Magdiel was mostly raised in New York before moving to California at age 16. His family recalls him showing interest in singing, dancing and even writing music since he was a child. Growing up he learned how to write his own songs using the family guitar and piano; often inspired by artists such as The Cure, Depeche Mode and Radiohead. Once in California, a local musical crowd had noticed him for his abilities on the drums, which he had more recently learned. This led him to joining the band “York” in 2010. With them he toured along the west coast of the country, and returned with expanded ideas about music and his life. Now In “De Palma”, where Magdiel is the primary songwriter, we see a true experimentation of styles he has encountered throughout his journey, and products like “Synthetic”, which display a fun yet raw transformation of 80’s nostalgia.
